Fantastic news that we’re in the final stages of opening a fabulous new venue based in Whitehaven’s iconic former bus station. There’ll be a 100 seater cafe/bar on the ground floor to be named The Peddler and startup office space above.
In the tradition of the peddlers of bygone days who travelled the countryside looking for good things to bring back for their customers, The Peddler seeks out and brings to the table the very best in food and drink, from land and sea, lake and mountain, looking out for what’s new as well as what’s in season and bringing together excellent ingredients as the foundation of our menus.
BEC’s head of property and development, Rob Miller added: “Food innovation will be key at the Bus Station, and it will also act as a hothouse for tech, digital, media, and creative start-ups.”
Michael Pemberton, chief executive of BEC, said: “The development revives neglected places.
“Craig Lowery and the team at Osprey have taken a similar approach to developments, choosing places that need to be revitalised and returned to the communities that house them, providing leisure spaces for society to thrive and supporting employment opportunities on the coast of Cumbria.”
Sellafield Ltd is investing £2.6m into the bus station project and the North Shore scheme is led by BEC, with the help of partners including Copeland Borough Council and Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners.
